Golden Globes 2016, where the jewellery outshone the gowns!

Finally, an Awards show where the jewellery often outshone the gowns!   The stylists seem to be getting their act together and realising how much shine and glow well selected jewels can enhance an ensemble.

My favourite necklace of the night was worn by Leslie Mann (above), whilst not as jaw dropping as Jennifer Lawrence's 156.77carats of diamonds by Chopard ( (below) which you just couldn't miss!), Leslie's one of a kind Irene Neuwirth mixed gemstone necklace was a wonderful way to display one-off gems and so different to the diamond look that has abounded recently.    She also wore  pink tourmaline and diamond earrings.

Earrings were mostly long, whether linear or chandelier, following the proposed trend for earrings in 2016 and bracelet cuffs featured heavily on wrists.

Colourful gemstone earrings, bracelets and ring were definitely in view all over the red carpet, the stage and the after parties.   Here are some of them...

Bernadette Peters in David Webb jewels.

Bryce Dallas Howard in Irene Neuwirth fire opal and diamond earrings.

Carly Chakin in what appear to be aquamarine or sky blue topaz and diamond earrings.

 Gina Rodriguez in Neil Lane.

Heidi Klum in Lorraine Schwartz cherry blossom earrings.

Jamie Alexander in Columbian emeralds by Lorraine Schwartz.

 Joanne Froggatt in Chopard.

Laverne Cox dripping in emeralds (above and below) by Lorraine Schwartz.

Maria Menounous in huge earrings by Ofira.

Melissa Benoist wore pink opal, peach moonstone and diamond earrings and a pink opal ring by Irene Neuwirth.

 Queen Latifah in Lorraine Schwartz

Melissa McCarthy wearing a Kimberly McDonald geode pendant.

Taraji P Henson also wore Kimberly McDonald - her earrings featured huge Zambian emeralds.

Zoe Lister Jones (above) wore these magnificent Irene Neuwirth mixed gemstone earrings to an after party.

Zendaya and Jane Fonda went the pearl route...

Zendaya in tahitian pearls by Yoko London (above and below)

Jane Fonda wore Chopard.

Necklaces were still in the minority but a scan of the venue showed a fair number of them as a single row of diamonds with a few notable exceptions.

Emmy Rossum in Van Cleef & Arpels.

Jennifer Lopez in over 200 carats of Harry Winston diamonds

 Helen Mirren in Harry Winston

 Sarah Hyland

Sophia Bush (above) and Judith Light (below) in the single strand of diamond style that was a popular choice for those who wore necklaces.

And those who preferred colourless stones on their ears and wrists...

Alicia Vikander wore Louis Vuitton earrings.

Brie Larson in Tiffany & Co.

Cate Blanchett in Tiffany & Co (above and below)

Caitriona Balfe in vintage 1920s diamonds by Fred Leighton.

 Felicity Huffman in Martin Katz.

And a few went the mostly gold route.

 Olivia Palermo in David Webb.
